Teleportation:  Is it possible? Is it in our reach?
Wormhole, Time Travel, Portal, Vortex

What does it mean by the way?

Have you ever watched star trek or Japanese cartoon called Doraemon? Or have you watched any of the following movies:-

  • JUMPER
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles
  • X-Men Apocalypse
  • THOR series

If you didn't, don't forget to watch one of these.
Okay getting back to the point, what's common in these?
A circle type of thing opens mysteriously from nowhere and people enter inside and then the circle disappears and the person reaches a whole another place without any visa, passport or most importantly without any vehicle and in just a few seconds. Cool man!

So, Teleportation basically means the transfer of energy or matter from point A to point B without travelling any physical space like land, water, the air between them. Some of you will now be like
" That's all fiction, you idiot"
I know but according to science, this is possible.

                                                  Amazed, Expression, Eyes, Face, Female

How on Earth is that possible??

  • Physicist Charles Bennett and a team of IBM experts confirmed that quantum teleportation was literally possible.

  • But  one of the possible ways of doing it is:
Copying the matter entirely and then sending to the location and destroying the original.

It's like committing a murder each time and the same time not committing because copying the entire mater means, everything from the physical body to the brain, thinking process, thoughts, memories ... the person had. Cut and paste kind of thing !.

Is it just me saying this or have we achieved this already?

Cat, Funny, Goofy Face, Animal, Cute

Well, this has been done in reality !!!
What the...
YES, I am not kidding.
Chinese, Austrian scientists have succeeded in teleporting a three dimensional Quantum states for the first time.
                Physics, Quantum Physics, Particles

They were successful in teleporting photon(a light particle).
However, there are various paths that can be taken by the photon and it can take literally any path with us having no control over it.
Most interestingly it can also be present at various paths at the same timeDamn!!!

So, what did they do?
Actually, the possible paths can be visualized as three optical fibers. So they used a device called Multiport Beam splitter, which directs photons through several inputs and outputs and connects three fibers together.
They also sent auxiliary photons through multi-beam splitter and can also interfere with other photons.
They selected certain interference patterns such that the quantum information got transferred without any physical interaction of the two photons.
smart move !!

But What is this Multi beam Splitter?

  • Simply it's an optical device that splits  the beam of light in multiple directions

What about Humans?

Well there are certain limits in teleporting Human body and those are:

  • We don't have a technology that can operate on large scales and on the larger matter.

  • As there is no definite path of particles, the teleported matter (large one) has a chance of reaching unwanted destinations.

imagine you wanted to visit your Grandpa but due to a little bit of error you landed inside a Sewer in an unknown place.yuck!!!

  • c)We know that our entire body is composed of trillions and trillions of atoms and remember, we right now we're talking only about photons.

  • d) If we are even able to make a machine for transporting a huge amount of matter, what are the chances that it will work without any error? Because if there will be an error of even .01 or.001 or .00001 etc. it can cause severe damage to the neurological or physiological condition of the person's body.

Imagine yourself arriving at the destination without your leg or hand or even head.
SO there's a lot to cover for technology to properly teleport.
But when will such technology be accessible nobody knows, maybe in a few years or maybe in a few centuries...
